DeveloperTools

Privacy policy

DeveloperTools is built so that there is as little to say here as possible. The tools are static pages that run in your browser, and none of them send what you paste anywhere. This page describes the narrow set of data the site as a whole touches.

The short version

  • Your tool input never leaves your device. Formatting, converting and comparing all happen in your browser tab. There is no upload endpoint and no database storing your content.
  • No account, no profile. We do not ask for an email address and we do not build a user profile.
  • The site is ad-supported and measured. Advertising and visitor statistics are provided by Google, which sets its own cookies. Those are the only places third-party data collection occurs, and neither ever sees what you type into a tool.

Data processed in your browser only

Everything you type or drop into a tool is held in the memory of the page you are on. It is discarded when you close or reload the tab. It is never transmitted, never logged and never stored on a server.

The site stores a few small items in your browser’s local storage: your theme preference (light, dark or system) and, once you change them, the settings of some tools — the time zones and cities of the timestamp converter, the syntax and server time zone of the cron parser, and the options of the password generator (never the passwords it generates). The cookie policy lists each one. They stay on your device, are readable only by this site, and can be removed by clearing site data in your browser.

Server logs

The site is served as static files by a hosting provider. Like every web server, that provider records standard request information — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — for security and to keep the service running. These logs are handled by the hosting provider under its own terms and are not used to identify individual visitors.

Advertising

The site is funded by advertising delivered through Google AdSense. To serve and measure ads, Google and its partners may set cookies or read device identifiers, and may use your prior visits to this and other sites to show relevant advertising.

Your options:

Google’s own handling of this data is described in the Google Privacy & Terms page. Details of which cookies appear and why are on the cookie policy page.

Analytics

The site uses Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics, which measures how the site is used: which pages are visited, how visitors arrive, the type of device and browser, and an approximate location derived from the IP address. To tell visits apart it sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_*) holding a random identifier.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies are only set once you agree to them. Until then, Google’s tags run with storage denied: they set no cookies and send only cookieless signals that carry no identifier. When the consent message is shown, you can change your answer at any time with Privacy choices in the footer.

Analytics records page views and navigation, never the content of a tool: what you paste, type or convert is not part of any measurement. Google processes this data under its privacy policy. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, a content blocker or your browser’s cookie settings; the site works the same either way.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, data protection law gives you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability over personal data relating to you.

Because the tools hold no personal data, in practice these rights concern the advertising and analytics cookies described above — which are controlled through the links in those sections — and the hosting provider’s request logs. For anything else, send me a message through the link below and I will respond.

Children

The site is intended for developers and other technical users. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

This policy is updated whenever the site’s data handling changes. The date at the top of the page always reflects the current version.
