Cookie policy
The tools on this site do not need cookies to work. The things that do involve browser storage are your theme and tool preferences, the analytics that measure visits, and the advertising that funds the site.
What the site itself stores
| Purpose | Mechanism | Lifetime | Sent to a server? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theme preference (light / dark / system) | localStorage key theme |
Until you clear site data | No |
| Timestamp converter settings (time zones shown and assumed, cities in the comparison table) | localStorage key timestamp-converter |
Until you clear site data | No |
| Cron parser settings (syntax and server time zone) | localStorage key cron-parser |
Until you clear site data | No |
| Password generator options (length, character types, passphrase settings, how many), never the passwords themselves | localStorage key password-generator |
Until you clear site data | No |
That is the complete list of what the site’s own code stores. The analytics and advertising described below set their own cookies.
Advertising cookies
Advertising is served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners set cookies and may read device identifiers in order to:
- select which ads to show,
- limit how often you see the same ad,
- measure whether an ad was viewed or clicked,
- and, unless you opt out, personalise ads based on your browsing history.
These cookies come from Google’s domains, not from this site, and this site has no access to their contents. Google publishes the specifics in its advertising cookie documentation.
Analytics
Visits are measured with Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager. It sets these first-party cookies:
| Cookie | Purpose | Lifetime |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Random identifier that tells one visitor’s visits apart from another’s | 2 years |
_ga_* |
Keeps the state of the current visit | 2 years |
They measure page views and navigation only, never what you enter into a tool. The Google Analytics opt-out add-on or any content blocker turns them off without affecting the site.
Consent
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, the analytics and advertising cookies above are only set after you agree to them in Google’s consent message. Until you do, Google’s tags set no cookies at all. You can change your answer whenever the message applies to you with Privacy choices in the footer.
How to control cookies
- Ad personalisation: Google Ads Settings lets you turn personalised advertising off while still seeing ads.
- Industry opt-outs: aboutads.info and, in the EU, youronlinechoices.eu.
- Browser settings: every major browser can block or delete cookies, per site or globally. Blocking them does not affect any tool on this site.
- Extensions: content and ad blockers work normally here. The tools do not detect them or ask you to disable them.
Clearing site data also removes your saved theme preference, after which the site follows your operating system setting again.
Changes
If new storage is ever introduced, it will be listed in the table above and the date at the top of this page will change.
